Hello and welcome to my first EVER blog! I’m going to be writing one of these every week, so I hope you enjoy it.

My name is Mel Armstrong, well for the next few weeks anyway as I get married very soon, but enough of that. I have 1 daughter, 2 granddaughters, 5 cats and 1 other half, so my life can be quite hectic. I am passionate about many things such as my family, the theatre, period dramas and my cats. My other passion is showing people how they can be successful and how they can get that job.

As a single parent, I struggled to get started into some sort of a job after applying for what seemed like hundreds. I finally got into work, changed jobs a couple of time and then realised I had to start carving out and building a career, but I had no idea how I was going to do it. Now remember, this was back in the day when you had to search through the local newspaper job supplement which only came out on a Thursday. After calling for an application form and waiting patiently for it to arrive by pigeon post, I then had the task of completing a handwritten application form, CV’s hadn’t been invented! This was the process that I followed for each job that I applied for, (I feel tired just thinking about it).

I built a successful career within the Recruitment Industry, recruiting for a number of Blue Chip organisations and for the past few years I have been an Employability and Work Skills Coach. When I tell my learners about the old process of gaining employment they look at me as though I’m speaking a different language and I’m telling them a Fairytale (a Grim one at that!). I have seen thousands of application and CV’s throughout my career and interviewed more people than I can remember.

“I know what an employer looks for and I want to share my knowledge to enable people to become successful.”

Luckily things have changed for the better and job searching and applying for jobs can all be done at the touch of a button. However the process is still the same, search for a job and apply for it, whether this is by CV and Cover Letter or by an online application form.

Let me show you how to get to make that career change or get that job you so desire. I understand how difficult it can be to get started on your career ladder or to find sustainable employment. I’ll give you the tools and show you the strategies that really do work and put yourself in the best position to get that job. I know what works and what doesn’t and I can show you how to not to be afraid of Boost your confidence, feel fantabulous and let me help you to put you in the best possible position to make things happen. Are you ready to make progress, not excuses?
